An employee at an Odessa school was arrested Tuesday after police there discovered she sent “explicit” text messages to a 17-year-old student, officials said.

Elyssa Renteria Zuniga, 26, was charged with having an improper relationship between an educator and student, a second-degree felony, and was taken to the Ector County Law Enforcement Center Tuesday, police said.

Zuniga worked in the Ector County Independent School District, but was not a teacher there, officials said.

After receiving a report on Jan. 3 that Zuniga was participating in an inappropriate relationship with a student, the Odessa Police Department opened an investigation.

Police found inappropriate text messages were exchanged between Zuniga and a 17-year-old male student, they said.
