According to most recent CDC statistics, an estimated 1 in 4 children in America experience maltreatment at some point in their lives. Here is what to do if you suspect child abuse and how to report it.

Meridian police said a two-month-old baby with serious injuries did not get medical attention for several days.

The child’s mother, Indya Powell, 18, was charged with child neglect and desertion. Powell’s bond was set at $100,000. Police did not release details about the baby’s injuries.

Meridian Police Chief Benny Dubose said they are working to determine whether this was also a case of child abuse, WTOK reported.

“There may be other charges pending for Ms. Powell and/or charges for other individuals that may have been involved in this particular incident,” Chief Dubose says.
