HONESDALE, WAYNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)- A local Spanish teacher is accused of taking inappropriate pictures of some of his female students.
Gaspare Gambino, 34, was arraigned Wednesday morning at the Wayne County Courthouse.
State police say Gambino was a Spainish teacher at Honesdale High School and may have used his school-issued iPad to take inappropriate pictures of at least 14 female students.
According to troopers, the pictures were all close ups of the girl’s private areas. The photos reportedly did not contain faces.
The pictures were reportedly taken in Gambino’s classroom and other school surroundings. Some were even taken in his classroom, behind his desk.
The investigation started after Gambino gave his iPad to one of his students who stumbled on the pictures and then reported it to the administrators.
Gambino was hired by Wayne Highlands School District in 2015.
Administrators say he was placed on leave in September as this investigation began.
“This is a very disturbing allegation we are going to vigorously pursue,” said Wayne County District Attorney Patrick Robinson. “The PA state legislature passed a law in 2005 that made this kind of conduct criminal. It’s always been disgusting, but it’s not criminal.”
Gambino was taken to the Wayne County prison on $10,000 bail. State police say they are still working to identify all of the students in the photographs.
